Trump Family's Crypto Empire Sparks Outrage Among Conservatives

A recent report by The Wall Street Journal has sparked outrage among some conservatives who accuse President Donald Trump's family of exploiting their office for financial gain.

The controversy centers around World Liberty Financial, a company controlled by the Trumps that is seeking to become an official bank. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has granted preliminary conditional approval for this to happen.

This would allow World Liberty Trust to issue and redeem its own stablecoin, USD1, which has a market value of around $4 billion. The Trumps have profited significantly from cryptocurrency ventures since 2024, with President Trump earning over $1.4 billion in the past year alone.

Critics argue that this move is not only unethical but could also harm the US economy by undermining efforts to regulate digital assets. A landmark bill aimed at creating a comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto has stalled due to disagreements over ethics language that would prohibit government officials from profiting off digital assets.
