Trump Hosts Crypto Executives as SEC Weighs Regulations

Share

US President Donald Trump invited crypto executives to the White House as the Securities and Exchange Commission weighs regulations for the industry. The event was attended by top crypto figures, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, and Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi.

Trump urged Congress to pass a 'fair version of the Clarity Act,' which would provide clearer definitions for the cryptocurrency sector. The bill has stalled in the Senate with little time left on the congressional calendar.

The Clarity Act aims to define which tokens qualify as securities versus commodities and which agencies have oversight of the sector. Without legislation, regulations will be vulnerable to shifting political climates and court challenges, creating hazards for the crypto industry, according to executives and analysts.

However, many Democrats and some Republicans have expressed concerns about voting for a bill without strong language to ban politicians from profiting off their own crypto ventures.
