Trump Hosts Crypto Leaders at White House Amid SEC Rule Proposals
President Donald Trump hosted a meeting at the White House on August 10 to discuss US leadership in cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence (AI). Representatives from major companies, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq, were present along with SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee Chair Mike Selig.
Trump emphasized that the US is leading in every aspect of AI and crypto, including Bitcoin. He criticized the Biden administration's approach to cryptocurrency, stating that it discouraged innovation and hindered market growth.
The meeting came a day after the SEC proposed new rules that would provide exemptions for certain cryptocurrency token offerings, making it easier for companies to issue tokens and raise money. Trump urged legislators to pass the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets.
