Trump Hosts Mining Executives Amid Critical Mineral Supply Chain Fears
The US government is taking steps to secure critical mineral supplies for its strategic sectors, including AI and crypto. US President Donald Trump will host a meeting with top mining company leaders at the State Department on August 7 to discuss securing supplies of critical minerals for the United States and its allies.
Critical minerals are essential components in advanced weapons, AI, electric cars, renewables, telecommunications networks, and even crypto mining hardware. The worry is that the world relies too much on a handful of countries, especially China, which controls most rare earth processing.
The meeting aims to establish supply pacts and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between US companies and their foreign counterparts. Companies like Rio Tinto, BHP, Freeport-McMoRan, MP Materials, and Energy Fuels are expected to attend the meeting.
