Trump Keeps Door Open to New US Bitcoin Purchases
US President Donald Trump has left the door open to further Bitcoin purchases by his administration. In a recent White House discussion, he stated that his team had discussed acquiring more BTC and other cryptocurrencies but had not made a final decision.
The comments came during an event with technology executives and top regulators on August 19. When asked about acquiring large amounts of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, Trump replied that the administration had talked about it but announced no acquisition of crypto by or funding of government acquisition.
However, he noted that his team could listen to recommendations from SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who was present at the meeting. The comments do not change the US policy on accumulation and any further Bitcoin accumulation would be subject to the legal framework established by Trump's March 6, 2025 executive order creating the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
