Trump-Linked Crypto Firm Backs AI Platform Offering Chinese Models
A Trump-linked crypto firm called World Liberty Financial is backing an AI platform named WorldClaw. This platform offers access to hundreds of models from various developers, including those from Chinese companies like Alibaba and Baidu.
WorldClaw's WorldRouter service connects users with different AI systems through one interface. It accepts payments in the form of USD1 stablecoin and WLFI tokens. The relationship between World Liberty Financial and WorldClaw stands out because some of the models on WorldClaw come from companies facing US government restrictions.
While it's true that Alibaba and Baidu are designated by the US Department of Defense as associated with China's military, this designation doesn't amount to a blanket ban preventing ordinary American users from accessing their AI models. However, Z.ai is placed on the US Commerce Department's Entity List, which limits its access to certain American technologies.
The most practical concern for businesses may not be the nationality of a model but rather where user prompts and other inputs are transmitted to third-party providers. WorldClaw's privacy policy notes that it doesn't control how those providers store or process the data once it has been passed to them.
