Trump-Linked Crypto Projects Wipe Out $4.7 Billion in Investor Value
Investors in cryptocurrency projects tied to U.S. President Donald Trump have suffered at least $4.7 billion in losses, according to a report by advocacy group Public Citizen. The majority of these losses remain unrealized, with investors still holding onto the assets that have declined in value.
The biggest losses are linked to the TRUMP memecoin, which was launched three days before Trump's inauguration in January 2025. This token reached an all-time high of $73.43 in January but plummeted to around $2.73 by Friday. Early buyers captured most of the profits, with wallets that purchased TRUMP during the first two days after launch accounting for nearly 90% of all gains among retail investors.
Public Citizen notes that Trump did not invest his own capital to acquire the tokens; they were allocated to a company linked to him. Additional income came from licensing fees, meaning most of the proceeds may effectively have been profit.
