Trump-Linked Group Wins Conditional Approval for Stablecoin Charter
US regulators have given conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company's application for a national trust bank charter, paving the way for the company to bring stablecoin issuance services in-house.
The OCC has received 40 new bank charter applications since 2025, many linked to crypto projects, fueling debates over crypto oversight and presidential conflicts of interest.
World Liberty Financial, partly owned by an entity affiliated with President Donald Trump and his family, must still satisfy further conditions including raising capital before the charter is finalized.
The approval opens a path for World Liberty to issue stablecoins backed by U.S. Treasurys, which could expand its business in this area.
