Trump Media Abandons $6.4 Billion Crypto Venture Amid Escalating Ethics Concerns
Trump Media and Technology Group's ambitious $6.4 billion crypto venture has been canceled due to escalating ethics concerns surrounding President Donald Trump's family digital-asset businesses.
The proposed deal, which aimed to create a publicly traded company built around accumulating Cronos tokens from Crypto.com, was mutually agreed upon by the parties involved on August 7. However, market conditions and shifting business priorities led to its cancellation.
Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek stated that 'moving forward under current market conditions doesn't make sense' and that they will continue to pursue other ETF opportunities. The news sent CRO's value plummeting by 6% to $0.05009, its lowest level since 2023.
The cancellation of the deal has reignited concerns over Trump's crypto fortune, which is complicating Washington's regulatory push on digital assets. Senate Democrats are demanding restrictions on the ability of presidents and other senior officials to profit from a sector their administrations regulate.
