Trump Media Adapts Digital Asset Strategy Amid $190M Losses
Trump Media, the parent company of Truth Social and other media brands, is revamping its digital asset strategy after recording significant losses in the second quarter. As reported in the latest earnings statement, Trump Media suffered a net loss of $238 million, with $190.4 million of those losses coming from unrealized depreciation on digital assets, securities pledged as collateral, and equity holdings.
The company's BTC holdings remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, with 9,477.16 BTC held at the end of June and 14,139 BTC held by July 31. Of these, 2,077.34 BTC were used as collateral for options trading, while 4,260.73 BTC secured convertible notes.
To mitigate volatility and generate premium income, Trump Media plans to leverage financial options to manage Bitcoin price fluctuations. Additionally, a portion of the company's BTC will be deployed through lending and other yield-generating mechanisms.
The strategy comes with risks, however, as the company acknowledges that deploying assets through third-party arrangements exposes it to counterparty credit risk and potential losses in case of default.
