Trump Media Cancels Crypto.com Deal Amid Shifting Priorities

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) has canceled its deal with Crypto.com to create a $6.4 billion CRO treasury, citing 'prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities.' The decision comes after TMTG announced plans to integrate prediction markets into its Truth Social platform.

The company's interim CEO, Kevin McGurn, stated that the decision was driven more by competitive dynamics rather than regulatory concerns. This move is significant as it follows scrutiny from lawmakers calling for ethics provisions in a crypto market structure bill to eliminate conflicts of interest between the Trump family and its digital asset investments.

The canceled deal would have allowed Truth Social users to receive crypto rewards, potentially integrating billions of dollars worth of Crypto.com's CRO tokens into the platform. The decision marks a shift in priorities for TMTG, which is now focusing on a merger with energy company TAE.
