Trump Media Dumps CRO Treasury Project Amid Overcrowded Crypto Market
Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) has scrapped its plans to build a CRO-based crypto treasury project, as well as prediction markets in partnership with Crypto.com. The move is part of a broader refocusing effort by new management at TMTG, which aims to concentrate on media and the expected merger with TAE.
The company's acting CEO, Kevin McGurn, explained that the market for companies building crypto treasuries has become overcrowded over the past year. 'We wanted to get focused,' he said.
TMTG had initially planned to use the Trump Media brand and build on Crypto.com's Cronos blockchain and its CRO token. The main goal was to create a sizable CRO-denominated crypto reserve and generate additional income by staking these assets.
The companies announced the mutual termination of plans for the project, citing 'current market conditions and shifting priorities among the companies and stakeholders.' This decision comes after TMTG bought $105 million worth of CRO tokens in September 2025. At the time of writing, the portfolio's losses on the asset stand at $77.2 million.
