Trump Media's Bitcoin Holdings Plummet Amid Potential Substantial Loss
CoinDesk analysis suggests that Trump Media & Technology Group may have reduced its Bitcoin holdings to only the cryptocurrency pledged as collateral for its convertible notes. The report indicates that the company might have sold a significant portion of its Bitcoin reserves, potentially realizing a substantial loss.
The analysis reveals a discrepancy between the company's reported Bitcoin holdings and its original purchases. Trump Media currently holds 4,261 BTC, worth approximately $268 million, which is nearly identical to the amount it posted as collateral for its convertible notes. The company originally acquired a total of 11,542 BTC last year at an average price of $118,522 per coin.
The sale would represent a significant shift in Trump Media's digital asset strategy. The company had made headlines with its large Bitcoin purchase, which was seen as a bold bet on cryptocurrency. Selling at a loss could signal a change in management's risk appetite or a need for liquidity.
