Trump Media's Crypto Exposure Leaves Company Vulnerable to Market Swings
Trump Media and Technology Group reported a $238 million net loss in the second quarter of 2026, largely due to falling crypto prices. The company's holdings in Bitcoin slipped to 9,477 BTC by June 30, worth $557 million at the time, down from 9,542 BTC at the end of Q1.
The company held a total of 14,139 BTC by July 31 after selling Bitcoin-related securities and using the proceeds to buy Bitcoin directly. The rapid turnaround in July was a signal that management moved quickly to rebuild exposure after deciding direct ownership made more sense than holding it through securities wrappers.
Trump Media's crypto strategy has been under scrutiny, with some analysts describing the company as functioning like a crypto holdings vehicle wrapped around a media company. The collapse of the deal between Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition removed what would have been the company's clearest bet on Cronos specifically.
