$TRUMP Memecoin and CLARITY Act Tangle in Senate Ethics Debate
The CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at regulating digital assets, has hit a roadblock in the Senate. The dispute centers on ethics language released on July 22, which Democratic negotiators claim is 'riddled with major loopholes.' According to Warren's minority staff on the Senate Banking Committee, these provisions would not prevent President Trump from continuing to profit from his cryptocurrency ventures, including the $TRUMP memecoin and World Liberty Financial.
The analysis argued that even if the provisions technically applied to his profits, enforcement would fall to a Justice Department of his own choosing. This has held up the bill for weeks, with no resolution in sight.
Lummis rejected the Democratic analysis, accusing Warren of prioritizing opposition to Trump over protections for consumers. She defended the ethics language on three specific points and described Warren's fact sheet as dishonest.
