$TRUMP Memecoin Faces SEC Investigation Amid $3.8B Investor Losses
Two U.S. senators have requested that the SEC investigate $TRUMP, a memecoin associated with former President Donald Trump, after nearly one million investors reportedly lost $3.81 billion.
The request was made by Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal in an Aug. 4 letter to SEC Chair Paul Atkins, citing concerns over potential fraud or unjust enrichment facilitated by the token's activities.
The senators pointed out that Trump-affiliated entities received $636 million from trading fees, while early traders secured substantial gains before the token declined nearly 98% from its peak.
The lawmakers argued that the concentration of ownership and presidential promotion may have contributed to the losses experienced by retail investors.
