Trump Memecoin Grants $1M in Tokens to American Companies with Strings Attached
The Trump memecoin has distributed $1 million in tokens to 10 US companies through its America First Business Challenge program. The initiative, announced in April at Mar-a-Lago, aimed to support American businesses.
A total of 616 companies applied for the program, but only 36 were approved. The top vote-getter received $250,000 worth of TRUMP tokens, while six other companies received $100,000 each and three got $50,000 each.
The use of a memecoin for corporate support is unusual, as it has no separate use case beyond its speculative trading value. Companies had to hold TRUMP tokens to qualify for the grants, which means they had to purchase them first and then receive more in return.
This setup raises concerns about the stability and practicality of the support, as the token's value can fluctuate significantly.
