Trump Memecoin Surges Amid $4.7 Billion Investor Losses
Donald Trump's memecoin, TRUMP, saw a brief surge towards $3 on Friday as it attempted to recoup some of its losses from earlier in the year. Despite this, the digital asset remains down overall for 2026, having dropped from its January 1 opening price of $4.80.
The memecoin rose by over 20% on the day, making it one of a handful of digital assets with double-digit gains. This surge saw TRUMP's market cap climb to $705 million, despite remaining in the red for 2026.
A recent report from Public Citizen estimated investor losses in Trump-linked crypto products at $4.7 billion. The report claimed that Trump's profits from crypto came from loyal supporters, foreign governments, and entities seeking to curry favor with the US government.
