Trump Nominates Hung Cao as Next Navy Secretary
President Donald Trump has nominated Hung Cao to serve as the Secretary of the Navy. The announcement was made on TRUTH Social, where Trump praised Cao's military background and experience leading the Navy since Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took over. 'I am pleased to nominate a true WARRIOR, Hung Cao, to become the next Secretary of the Navy,' Trump wrote.
Cao has been serving as the civilian head of the Navy for four months after his predecessor was fired by Hegseth. A decorated combat Navy veteran, Cao graduated from the Naval Academy and served overseas in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia. He also ran for the Senate in Virginia in 2024 but lost to Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine.
Cao's nomination has been met with praise from Trump, who sees him as a strong leader for the Navy and Marine Corps. 'We need Patriots like Hung leading our Navy and Marine Corps, and I can think of no one better than him to make sure our Great Navy and Marine Corps remain the FIERCEST and BEST Force the World has ever seen,' Trump wrote.
