Trump Presses Congress on Cryptocurrency Regulation
US President Donald Trump has urged Congress to pass legislation aimed at establishing clearer rules for the cryptocurrency industry. The proposed bill, known as the Clarity Act, aims to define which tokens qualify as securities versus commodities and which agencies have oversight of the sector.
The event was attended by several top crypto executives, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi. Trump has a personal interest in the matter, having earned over $1.4 billion from his family's crypto ventures.
The Clarity Act is seen as crucial for providing clarity to the industry, which remains vulnerable to shifting political winds and court challenges without legislation. The bill has stalled in the Senate with little time left on the congressional calendar.
