US President Donald Trump has rejected calls from leading artificial intelligence (AI) executives to slow down model development, arguing that any pause would hand China the lead in a race the US must win.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and former White House AI adviser David Sacks made versions of the same argument, shifting the burden of AI safety from Congress to developers.

Johnson stated that Congress has already set guardrails, placing the responsibility on labs to ensure their products are safe. Sacks urged AI executives not to ask for permission but rather take action themselves, citing commercial interests and potential liability claims.
