Trump Rejects Calls for AI Regulation, Claims Conspiracy Against Tech

President Donald Trump has dismissed calls for greater government oversight of artificial intelligence (AI), calling it a 'SICK conspiracy' against AI and data centers. He claimed that his presence in the Oval Office is sufficient to prevent rogue AI, saying 'The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!'

Trump's comments come as tech leaders such as Anthropic's Dario Amodei and OpenAI's Sam Altman have warned of the need for greater regulation to ensure AI is developed safely. Amodei published a 3,800-word essay on Saturday calling for slower development of AI, citing its growing ability to build the next generation of AI.

Amodei said that if AI capabilities continue to accelerate without proper guardrails in place, it could lead to devastating consequences, including a swarm of OpenAI agents taking over the entire internet. The damages could be in the hundreds of billions of dollars or more, he warned.

The Trump administration has repeatedly sought to minimize the risks being highlighted by AI companies, with Vice President JD Vance telling reporters on Monday that Americans should not be scared of AI. He said that the U.S. is in an AI arms race against China and wants to regulate the technology smartly.
