Trump Signals Pathway for Hyperliquid to Enter US Market
Hyperliquid's HYPE token surged over 20% after President Donald Trump signaled efforts to bring the decentralized perpetual futures platform into the US market in a White House meeting.
During the meeting, Trump said CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is working to establish a legal pathway for Hyperliquid to operate in the US. 'I understand that Mike [Selig] is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal fashion, working very hard on that,' Trump stated.
The CFTC authorized the first perpetual futures contracts on registered US exchanges earlier this year, marking a step toward bringing the derivatives product into the US market. Trump's comments do not represent regulatory approval for Hyperliquid but signal that the CFTC is exploring a compliant pathway that could allow Hyperliquid to serve US users.
The meeting brought together executives from top crypto firms and the financial sector, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher also attended the meeting. Trump emphasized his administration's goal of maintaining US leadership in digital assets and artificial intelligence.
