Trump Signals Plan to Bring Hyperliquid Crypto Exchange Onshore
US President Donald Trump has signaled plans to bring Hyperliquid, a fast-growing crypto exchange, onshore. At a White House event, he stated that regulators are working to bring the platform into the country in a 'fully compliant and legal fashion'. This would allow it to operate under US oversight and provide a legal way for American traders to use the platform.
Hyperliquid operates outside of the US and is not currently open to American traders. Bringing it onshore could give it access to a much larger pool of customers and capital, while testing whether its decentralized appeal can be maintained within traditional US rules. The main developer of the platform, Hyperliquid Labs, is based in Singapore.
Shares of Hyperliquid Strategies, a publicly traded company that holds the HYPE token, jumped as much as 31% on August 19 after Trump's comments. This reaction was seen as an indication of how quickly the regulatory and political backdrop for digital assets is shifting.
