Trump Signals US Will Not Slow Down in Pursuit of Digital Asset Dominance
The White House hosted a meeting between President Donald Trump and top financial regulators and key figures in the cryptocurrency industry on Wednesday. The main takeaway from the meeting, according to Cody Carbone, CEO of The Digital Chamber, was that the U.S. is not going to slow down its bid for digital asset dominance.
Carbone noted that there was a lot of talk about the CLARITY Act, which would establish legal definitions for digital assets and create mandates for regulatory agencies. He said that President Trump indicated he hopes to sign the bill into law in September, and that there is bipartisan support for it.
The SEC and CFTC have been given authority from the White House to move quickly on regulating the sector, Carbone added. The CLARITY Act would create a regulatory framework that will provide durability and certainty for builders, issuers, and platforms, as well as consumer protections and disclosures for retail and institutional investors.
Carbone said that if the bill stalls in September, the focus is likely to shift to agencies like the SEC and CFTC, which would look to implement many of the bill's provisions through the regulatory process. He noted that the meeting also had an overarching theme of American innovation and technological leadership, not just in digital assets and blockchain but also in artificial intelligence.
