Trump Slams 'SICK Conspiracy' Against AI, Says His Presence Is Enough To Prevent Rogue Technology
President Donald Trump dismissed calls for greater government oversight of artificial intelligence (AI), calling it a 'SICK conspiracy' against AI and data centers. He claimed that his presence in the Oval Office is enough to prevent rogue AI from causing harm, saying 'The only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!'
Trump's comments come after tech leaders such as Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and Elon Musk called for greater oversight of AI to ensure its safe development. They expressed concerns about AI's capabilities and the potential risks it poses to national security.
The President specifically mentioned that his administration has stopped Anthropic from doing potentially bad things, but critics argue that this is not enough. Rahm Emanuel, former Chicago mayor and White House chief of staff, said 'It’s time to turn the lights on, put both hands on the wheel, and regain control before it's too late.'
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on AI, saying 'I don’t think Americans should be scared of anything.' However, he acknowledged that the U.S. is in an AI arms race against China.
