Trump Sons' Crypto Firm Backs Venture Offering Restricted Chinese AI Models
World Liberty Financial, backed by President Donald Trump's sons, has partnered with Hong Kong-based venture WorldClaw to offer AI models developed by Chinese companies flagged for national security concerns. The partnership allows customers to access a suite of AI models and pay using World Liberty's crypto tokens.
43 out of 90 AI models on WorldClaw were developed by Alibaba, Baidu, Z[dot]ai, and other Chinese tech companies that the Trump administration has restricted due to national security concerns. Despite this, experts say the collaboration is hypocritical and runs counter to the US government's stance towards Chinese tech companies.
World Liberty makes money from the use of its USD1 stablecoin, which is backed by traditional assets like US Treasury securities. The Trump family earns a percentage of the interest earned on those assets.
While there's no conflict of interest according to White House spokesperson Anna Kelly, critics argue that the partnership undermines the administration's efforts to respond to Chinese AI advancements.
