Trump to Host Crypto Executives Amid SEC's New Digital Asset Framework
President Donald Trump is hosting cryptocurrency executives at the White House on Wednesday as U.S. financial regulators advance their framework for certain digital assets. The event comes after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed rules exempting certain token offerings from securities regulations, making it easier for crypto companies to issue tokens and raise money.
The SEC's proposal was made public on Tuesday, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is scheduled to discuss crypto regulation at an industry gathering on Thursday. CFTC Chair Mike Selig, SEC Chair Paul Atkins, and crypto adviser Patrick Witt are expected to attend the White House event.
The event has raised concerns about Trump's involvement in cryptocurrency policy, given his family's significant profits from their own crypto ventures. According to Reuters/Ipsos polling this week, a majority of Americans believe Trump and his family have inappropriately profited from the crypto sector since his return to power.
