Trump Touts US Leadership in Crypto Amid Regulatory Push
US President Donald Trump hosted cryptocurrency and technology leaders at the White House on August 19, 2026. The meeting aimed to discuss regulatory frameworks for digital assets and artificial intelligence (AI). Representatives from major cryptocurrency companies, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq, were in attendance. SEC Chair Paul Atkins and Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Innovation Advisory Committee (CFTC) Chair Mike Selig also participated.
Trump emphasized the US's leadership in cryptocurrency and AI, stating that they are 'collectively ensuring that the U.S. remains the undisputed leader' in these areas. He criticized the Biden administration's approach to cryptocurrency, saying it discouraged innovation.
The meeting came as the SEC proposed new rules that would provide exemptions for certain cryptocurrency token offerings. Broader legislation governing digital asset markets, the CLARITY Act, remains pending in Congress and is scheduled for a Senate vote on September 15.
