Trump Touts US Leadership in Crypto and AI Amid Push for New Regulations
President Donald Trump welcomed cryptocurrency leaders and financial regulators to the White House on Wednesday, boasting that the US is 'leading by a lot' in digital assets and artificial intelligence.
The meeting, which included representatives from Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq, as well as SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Mike Selig, came as the SEC proposed new rules to provide exemptions for certain cryptocurrency token offerings. These proposed exemptions mark a shift from the agency's enforcement-heavy posture under former Chair Gary Gensler.
The president also urged legislators to pass the CLARITY Act, which would establish clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies by defining SEC and CFTC jurisdiction over digital assets. The bill is set for a Senate vote on September 15.
