Trump Unveils Plan to Disrupt Global Cybercrime Networks Exploiting Crypto
President Donald J. Trump has announced a National Security Presidential Memorandum titled 'Expanding Capabilities to Combat Transnational Cyber-Enabled Crime', which aims to disrupt foreign criminal networks.
The memorandum directs the creation of a federally supervised program that would let vetted U.S. companies execute cyber surveillance and effects operations against these networks, with the goal of shutting down scammers who exploit crypto to prey on Americans.
Crypto-related complaints involved $11.37 billion in reported losses, according to the FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report, which recorded 1,008,597 complaints and $20.877 billion in losses overall.
