Trump Urges Congress to Pass Crypto Clarity Act Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
U.S. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a bill that would provide clearer definitions for the cryptocurrency sector, a top priority for industry executives who attended an event at the White House.
The proposed Clarity Act aims to define which tokens qualify as securities versus commodities and which agencies have oversight of the sector. Without legislation, regulations will be vulnerable to shifting political climates and court challenges, creating lingering hazards for the crypto industry, say executives and analysts.
Trump has earned more than $1.4 billion from his family's crypto ventures and has pursued crypto-friendly policies since returning to office in January 2025. However, the sweeping crypto legislation that the industry wants has not yet passed Congress.
