Trump Warns US Must Hold Crypto Lead Against Chinese Rivalry
President Donald Trump has urged the United States to maintain its leadership in the cryptocurrency market. Speaking at the Ratepayer Protection Pledge event on Thursday, he emphasized America's leading position in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency compared to China.
'We're leading China and all other countries by a lot in AI and just about every other, including crypto,' Trump said. 'We want to stay in front in crypto. They'd love to take that over.'
Trump has long touted his pro-cryptocurrency stance, citing China's intentions to expand significantly in the sector. However, critics have raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to Trump's cryptocurrency ties.
In 2021, China imposed a full ban on cryptocurrency transactions and mining, officially declaring it illegal by its central bank. The bank reiterated these bans in November, particularly concerned about dollar-pegged stablecoins and focusing on developing its own central bank digital currency, the Digital Yuan.
