US President Donald Trump has proposed paying $5,000 to every adult US citizen if Republicans win the midterm elections. The initiative, dubbed the 'Trump Dividend', could cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval.
The potential payment size is estimated at around $1.2 trillion by the Kobeissi Letter, making it one of the largest stimulus payouts since the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump compared the proposal to a successful company distributing profits to shareholders, but did not specify how the money would be funded or enforced.
Historical data suggest that part of direct payments can flow into bitcoin and other risky assets. In 2020, Americans received $1,200 stimulus checks, which led to an increase in bitcoin purchases and a 3.8% boost in BTC/USD trading volume.
