Trump's $5,000 Dividend Plan Could Inject $1.35T into US Economy
President Donald Trump has revived his proposal for a $5,000 'Trump Dividend,' which could inject over $1.35 trillion into the US economy if approved by Congress.
The plan aims to provide a universal payment of $5,000 to approximately 270 million U.S. adults, with Vice President JD Vance suggesting that wealthy Americans might be excluded from receiving the payment.
While the dividend's direct impact on markets is uncertain, it could potentially boost household spending and strengthen risk appetite for equities and BTC if recipients spend a significant portion of their payments within the US.
However, funding the dividend would require additional borrowing or tariff revenue, which may lead to increased Treasury issuance and higher long-term yields. This could offset any initial risk-on effect and even raise inflation pressure, given that current inflation rates remain elevated at 3.4% annually.
