Trump's Crypto Business Deals Exposed as 'Flagrantly Corrupt'
Last Week Tonight host John Oliver recently shed light on the 'worrying' aspect of President Donald Trump's family business dealings in cryptocurrency. He argued that if Trump's crypto-related ventures were as transparent as Jimmy Carter's peanut farm, people would be more alarmed about the flagrant corruption.
Oliver pointed out a significant change in Trump's stance on Bitcoin, going from calling it a 'scam' against the US dollar to embracing its potential for profit. He noted that Trump's personal income reportedly surged to $2.2 billion in 2025, largely due to his family's crypto businesses.
The host highlighted the 'absurd' amount of Trump family ventures related to cryptocurrency and questioned how the President could be unaware of deals that would put millions in his sons' pockets. He suggested that Trump is exploiting the 'sketchiness' of cryptocurrency for maximum profit, making it easier for others to do the same.
Olivier also discussed the administration's push for the Clarity Act, which would shift crypto regulation from the SEC to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a short-staffed agency with inadequate investor protection. He noted that the SEC has eased up on more than 60% of ongoing crypto cases since Trump returned to office.
