Trump's Crypto Controversy: Majority Believe He Crossed a Line
A new poll from Reuters/Ipsos has shed light on the controversy surrounding President Trump's cryptocurrency dealings. The survey found that 63% of Americans believe it is inappropriate for Trump and his family to have profited from crypto since returning to the White House, with nearly all Democrats and two-thirds of independents agreeing.
Even among Republicans, half said they think the president lets business interests sway his decisions. This finding is significant because it suggests that a substantial minority of Trump's own base believes he has crossed a line.
The controversy centers around the $1.4 billion in crypto earnings reported by Trump since 2026, with World Liberty Financial and a self-branded meme coin being the primary sources of income.
The CLARITY Act, currently pending in Congress, aims to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets. However, its passage is now uncertain due to disagreements over an ethics provision that would restrict sitting officials from launching or promoting tokens while in office.
