Last Week Tonight host John Oliver exposed what's 'worrying' about President Donald Trump and his family's cryptocurrency businesses. According to Oliver, the conflicts of interest surrounding Trump's crypto dealings are so 'flagrantly corrupt and compromised' that they should raise alarm.

Oliver likened Trump's shift from dismissing Bitcoin as a 'scam' against the U.S. dollar to his current support for it. He noted that Trump's personal income reportedly surged to $2.2 billion in 2025, mostly due to his family's crypto businesses.

The host pointed out that the Trump administration is pushing to pass the Clarity Act, which would shift cryptocurrency regulation from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The CFTC has a mandate focused on commodities rather than investor protection, making it less equipped to handle crypto cases.
