John Oliver's HBO show 'Last Week Tonight' recently tackled the topic of Donald Trump's involvement in cryptocurrency. The comedian and political commentator pointed out that Trump has reinvented himself as the 'first crypto president,' despite initially calling Bitcoin a scam.

In his first year back in office, Trump's personal income exceeded $2.2 billion, with $1.4 billion coming from the family's crypto businesses. This includes the launch of two meme coins by the President and First Lady, which crashed 92% and 99% from their early highs.

Oliver also criticized World Liberty Financial, a Trump-owned venture that has been involved in several questionable deals. For example, TRON's Justin Sun made a $45 million investment prior to an SEC fraud case settlement against him, which was then dismissed with no admission of wrongdoing for $10 million.

The show host described crypto as 'a perfect vehicle to funnel money' to the Trump family and stated that the President is 'exploiting crypto sketchiness for maximum profit.' Oliver also highlighted the proposed CLARITY Act, a regulatory framework being discussed in the crypto industry. However, he pointed out that the introduction of digital commodities would give the CFTC exclusive jurisdiction over spot and cash markets, potentially weakening regulatory powers.
