Trump's Crypto Empire Exposed
On his return to Last Week Tonight, John Oliver tackled Donald Trump's cryptocurrency dealings, calling them 'flagrantly corrupt and compromised'. The host joked that Trump looked like he was 'slowly turning into Mrs Doubtfire', before moving on to the night's major theme: Trump as 'the first crypto president'.
Trump had previously referred to Bitcoin as a scam, but after seeing an industry willing to help him get elected and a fruitful source of money, he changed his tune. In his first year back in office, Trump made over $2.2 billion, most of which came from his family's crypto dealings worth $1.4 billion.
Oliver focused on two of the Trumps' crypto-related ventures: Trump memecoins and World Liberty Financial. The former are online jokes converted into real money, while the latter is a company co-founded with Trump's sons that has become their most valuable business interest.
