Trump's Crypto Push Spreads Clarity Across US Regulatory Landscape

US President Donald Trump's recent push for Congress to advance crypto legislation has added another layer of clarity to the country's regulatory environment. At a White House meeting with executives from major financial firms, including Coinbase and Ripple, Trump urged lawmakers to pass a 'fair version' of the CLARITY Act.

The CLARITY Act aims to create clearer classifications for digital assets, reducing uncertainty over whether they fall under securities or commodities law. This could make compliance decisions easier for exchanges, token issuers, and institutional investors. However, the legislation remains politically contested, with concerns about conflicts of interest involving public officials with crypto holdings.

Trump's push builds on earlier decisions, including the establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in March 2025. The reserve holds eligible Bitcoin obtained through government forfeitures, which cannot be sold. The Treasury and Commerce departments were also authorized to examine budget-neutral methods for acquiring additional BTC.
