Trump's Crypto Summit: CLARITY Act and US Bitcoin Reserve Talks Take Center Stage
US President Donald Trump recently hosted a cryptocurrency summit at the White House, where he emphasized the importance of the CLARITY Act and its potential to counter China's influence in the sector. The legislation aims to provide regulatory clarity for digital assets and has been described by Trump as 'very powerful structured legislation' that will keep the US ahead of China.
The summit also saw discussions about establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve, with Trump confirming that acquiring Bitcoin has 'been talked about.' However, he noted that the decision would be made by SEC leadership, led by Paul Atkins and his team.
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott indicated that the CLARITY Act has a good chance of moving forward in September, but an ethics provision tied to the Trump family's cryptocurrency interests remains unresolved. This issue could impact the final passage or amendments of the bill.
