Trump's Crypto Summit: CLARITY Act, Hyperliquid, and a National Bitcoin Reserve
US President Donald Trump hosted a high-stakes crypto summit at the White House, where he called on the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act and maintain America's financial dominance.
The event saw attendance from major players in the crypto and traditional finance industries, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Gemini Founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
Armstrong warned that banks are pushing back against the CLARITY Act due to concerns about competition. Trump touted the new regulation initiatives as a stark contrast to the previous regime's strict rules, citing 583 IPOs since his inauguration, raising a total of $208 billion, nearly four times that of Biden's era.
The CFTC Chair announced plans to bring Hyperliquid to the US, causing HYPE to rally by 20.54% to trade at $70.55. Trump also mentioned considering buying 'sizable' amounts of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to create a national reserve, which would alleviate pressure on the US dollar.
Discussions during the summit focused on establishing legal frameworks for tokenizing traditional assets, prediction markets operations, and supporting AI to stay ahead of foreign competition. The meeting comes after an SEC proposal for crypto offerings with lax securities requirements and before the September 15 vote on the CLARITY Act.
