Trump's Crypto Ventures Leave Investors $4.7B Underwater
A report from Public Citizen claims that US President Donald Trump's involvement in various crypto ventures has resulted in estimated losses of $4.7 billion for investors since 2022.
The majority of these losses, around $3.2 billion, are attributed to the Official Trump (TRUMP) memecoin, with investors losing wealth as it was transferred to early buyers rather than being lost entirely.
Trump's family also generated revenue through their World Liberty Financial governance token, with sales and licensing fees totaling over $600 million. Additionally, the president earned millions from NFT licensing fees and royalties, as well as capital contributions to World Liberty.
Public Citizen is calling for ethics provisions in a cryptocurrency market structure bill, the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, which would require US presidents and their families to divest from projects in the industry. The bill is scheduled for a cloture vote on Sept. 15.
