Trump's 'Hundreds of Billions' Claim Undermined by Public Records
US President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that he has generated 'hundreds of billions' of dollars for the US through his stock investments. However, the figure remains unverified and contradicts publicly available records showing the government's actual gains. The administration has invested in various assets, including Intel, which has seen a significant increase in value.
The government's portfolio includes about $26.7 billion across 30 equity or quasi-equity deals, according to Fortune. However, Trump's claim of 'hundreds of billions' is far from the actual gains, with the Intel investment alone accounting for approximately $32.6 billion in unrealised appreciation. This increase represents a paper gain, as the government has not necessarily received the funds.
Trump also highlighted his personal financial disclosure, which reported more than $2.2 billion in income, including over $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency and related partnerships. However, these figures concern Trump's personal finances, not the US government's corporate investments.
