Trump's Push for CLARITY Act Sparks Crypto Optimism Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
US President Donald Trump is pushing for the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clarity on cryptocurrency regulations. The bill would divide responsibility between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), with digital assets classified as securities regulated by the SEC and digital commodities under the CFTC.
The legislation has been passed by the House of Representatives with a bipartisan 294-134 vote in July 2025, but its future is uncertain. The Senate Banking Committee passed its version of the bill by a 15-9 vote in May 2026, and a cloture vote is scheduled for September 15.
The CLARITY Act would introduce new rules, including disclosure requirements for certain crypto issuers, resale restrictions for insiders, anti-evasion provisions, registration requirements for digital commodity exchanges, and protections covering customer assets. It would also give the CFTC broader authority over digital commodity spot markets.
