Two-Thirds of Americans Say Trump's Crypto Profits Are Unacceptable
A recent poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos found that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe it's inappropriate for President Trump to profit from cryptocurrency ventures while in office. The poll, which was conducted on August 19, showed that 63% of respondents considered it unacceptable for the president and his family to generate income from crypto-related enterprises. Only 32% of respondents thought these profits were acceptable.
The scale of the Trump family's crypto earnings has become increasingly difficult to ignore, with financial disclosures revealing more than $1.4 billion in income from crypto-related ventures as of June 30, 2026. Total estimated profits from all Trump-linked crypto projects have reached at least $2.3 billion.
The majority of this revenue comes from two main sources: World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance platform co-founded by the president and his sons, which generated nearly $800 million in reported crypto income; and the $TRUMP meme coin, launched on the Solana blockchain around Inauguration Day in January 2025, which has contributed roughly $635 million to family profits.
The poll data highlights concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as critics argue that a sitting president profiting from an asset class they have the power to regulate creates a clear ethical issue. The Trump administration's friendly posture toward digital assets since taking office has been noted, with executive orders, regulatory appointments, and legislative signals all favoring crypto.
