U.S. Bank Completes Live Cross-Border Payment with USBDC Stablecoin
U.S. Bank has successfully completed a live cross-border payment using its USBDC stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain, marking a significant step in the bank's exploration of blockchain-based solutions for international transactions.
The pilot test covered various functions, including minting, payment redemption, freezing, and clawback capabilities, which are essential for regulated financial services. The USBDC stablecoin represents a dollar-backed token that can be used for cross-border treasury operations, liquidity management, and collateral movement.
The transaction took place between internal U.S. Bank entities in North America and Europe, demonstrating the bank's ability to accelerate global cash management and money movement capabilities. The pilot test is part of U.S. Bank's ongoing collaboration with the Stellar Development Foundation and PwC to develop custom stablecoin issuance solutions.
The bank is now reviewing the token for potential use in cross-border treasury operations, liquidity management, and collateral movement. However, it has not announced a commercial rollout timetable or client availability.
