U.S. Commerce Department Publishes Economic Data on Blockchain with Chainlink
The U.S. Commerce Department has partnered with Chainlink to publish select macroeconomic indicators on a public blockchain, marking the first time a U.S. federal agency has distributed official economic data onchain.
The initiative will make key figures from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) available on a blockchain network, including real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index.
This collaboration represents a significant step toward integrating blockchain technology into federal operations, aiming to enhance transparency and accessibility by placing economic data on a public ledger. Blockchain's immutability ensures that the data cannot be altered retroactively, which could reduce discrepancies and build trust in official statistics.
