U.S. Commerce Department Publishes Macro Data on Public Blockchains via Chainlink
The U.S. Commerce Department has partnered with Chainlink to publish official macroeconomic data on public blockchains. This marks the first time federal economic statistics have been made available in a programmable form.
The initiative covers three core indicators from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, including real GDP, PCE Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers. Each indicator is provided in two forms: as a dollar level or growth rate, and as a percent change or level.
The data feeds are updated on the same schedule as the government's normal release cadence, with monthly or quarterly refreshes. Chainlink provides the infrastructure for carrying this data onchain, using its Data Feeds to pull official BEA figures and publish them to smart contracts.
The Commerce Department has also posted an official cryptographic hash of each release directly to major public chains, allowing anyone to confirm that a figure has not been altered after publication. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to making economic data more accessible and transparent.
